PRATI. As one of Rome's more popular jazz clubs, Alexanderplatz hosts both Italian and foreign, especially American, jazz musicians for live nightly performances. Alexanderplatz has a restaurant and bar for you to enjoy while you listen to the music. The walls are adorned with mementos of jazz artists from throughout the decades.

TESTACCIO. This is where many of Rome's salsa-aficionados come to hang out. Cafè de Oriente features live Latin American music most nights of the week and similar DJ-sets afterwards.

OSTIENSE. This former factory has a delightful outdoor courtyard for the warmer months. Classico Village boasts a bar, restaurant and hosts live concerts (mainly jazz) and DJ sets of house, rock and electronic music. This eclectic space ­ in Ostiense near the old train station ­ also hosts one of the city's only gay-friendly nights (usually Saturday).

SALARIO-NOMENTANA. The Piper has been going strong for over 30 years and is still a major magnet for all the well-heeled youths of Rome on a Friday night. The décor has been updated, the music is house and what's hot right now, and the general leitmotiv seems to be pure disco entertainment. Radio Londra attracts a unique crowd of people who express themselves in any number of ways, including outlandish clothing and body piercings. The music is vibrant, and the crowd is vivacious. Four nights a week, Radio Londra usually sponsors live music, and sometimes bands entertain at the pub and pizzeria located above the dance floors.
